Acne is an inflammatory skin condition characterized by superficial skin eruptions. Acne can be upsetting and disfiguring and can also lead to serious and permanent scarring.

The sebaceous glands
The diagram shows a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland. Sebaceous glands are attached to hair follicles and are found mostly on the face, neck, back and chest. It is this gland that produces sebum, an oily material that surrounds each hair follicle. The oil lubricates and protects the skin.

What is trapping sebum within these sebaceous glands?
It can simply be some of the dead squamous cells from the outer stratum corneum that have fallen down into the areas around the hair follicles plugging the sebaceous glands. Or it may be excess protein toxins you have been eating and have remained within your skin attracting to much moisture which ultimately have 'pinched off' your sebaceous glands. This causes a buildup of oil underneath the skin.

Acne bacteria
The plugged follicles are a rich environment for the uncontrolled development of the germs which are normally on the skin surface and cause acne, the most noticeable being: Propionibacterium Acnes, which causes the inflammation and redness around acne lesions.

If the inflammation is right near the surface, you get a pustule; if it’s deeper, a papule (pimple); deeper still and it’s a cyst. If the oil breaks though to the surface, the result is a “whitehead”. Actually very little sebum infection by acne bacteria can cause the reactions described above.

If the oil becomes oxidized (that is, acted on by oxygen in the air like to an apple), the oil changes from white to black, and the result is a “blackhead.”

Anything that causes excess water retention within your skin can pinch off (ouch!) the sebaceous glands within your skin and make you break out sebum where acne bacteria will proliferate, in minutes, specially if you are going through a period of high sebum production. Excess salt and spices are the most common triggers, so if you eat too many potato chips... they contain both.

Acne treatment
The snails secretion fight acne germs effectively for they have a natural antibiotic action that destroys bacteria at the skin follicles and attacks the cause of blemishes (Propionibacterium Acnes) at the source - without ever producing bacterial resistance or side effects, unlike long-term use of prescription antibiotics for the treatment of acne such as erythromycin, tetracycline, clindamycincan. doxcycline, and trimethoprim. Those cause more difficult problems down the road by creating P. acnes populations that can't be treated. The use of long-term rotational antibiotics is outdated and will only exacerbate antibiotic resistance.

BIOACNECARE works for most people and it also works for severe acne infection when used in conjunction with systemic (oral) antibiotics or retinoids (accutane) plus a procedure to detoxify your skin.

Warning: Isotretinoin (accutane, roaccutane) and Retin A aim to decrease the amount of oil produced by the skin's sebaceous (oil) glands. But the problem is not too much sebum production if your follicles are not plugged or your sebaceous glands are not pinched off. And those complexs can have harmful long term effects and very uncomfortable side effects.

Severe acne infection should be addressed with a more holistic approach, and if BIOACNECARE does not seem to work for you within a few days it means you need to detoxify your skin following strictly the procedure we indicate below, instead of starting an endless search for some other antibacterial product that just might work (most acne products are just that an antibacterial complex).

Our recommendation to detoxify your skin is comprised of three steps:

If your intake of excess protein has been going on for a long time your body has been trying hard to get rid off them through your skin. In such process it attracts too much moisture with the result of pressure to your sebaceous glands as if they were pinched off. You need to get rid of the toxins within your skin promptly if you want to have acne bacteria under control.

Procedure:
1.- Go to a sauna and get into it for 15 minutes (not more not less), then shower. Then back to the sauna for another 15 minutes.. then shower, and then drink clean pure water. You can do this once or twice a month if you do not get addicted to such pleasures... and the clear results for your skin... specially if you also follow the next step. (If a sauna is not feasible steaming your face a few times a week will help a little. (Boil some water in a pot on the stove, turn off the heat, cover your head and face with a towel and hang your face over the pot. Take your face away from the heat whenever you need to, and when the steam is gone, rinse your face with cold water.)

2.- Shift your diet, and stick strictly to it for two weeks. Eat loads of fresh fruits and fresh salads including tomato, avocado and virgin olive oil, plus fresh Brazil nuts and 50 grams each day of high quality bio-available proteins in the form of raw fish such as sashimi (fresh fish the Japanese way without the rice) or raw tuna fish (fresh not refrigerated or canned). In between meals drink water to help your body flush out toxins. The recommended amount of water you should drink is at least half your bodyweight in ounces of water (a 140lb. individual should drink 70 ounces/day ). After those two weeks try eating a diet high in fiber — salads, bran, complex carbohydrates, and lots of water. This will keep your digestive tract moving so that your skin is not burdened by wastes your system can't handle. Keep your diet low in fat and sugar. Eating healthier foods insures that your skin gets the nutrients it needs.

3. Apply BIOACNECARE twice a day to a) speed the process of clearing your sebaceous glands of debris. b) get rid of acne bacteria within your skin follicles and c) clear acne marks and repair acne scarring.

The role of enzymes
The drawings show a cross section of your skin. Your skin is made up of three layers, the epidermis, dermis, and the subcutaneous tissue. It is the outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis, that we want to Glycoconjugates on. This layer is made up of individual flat cells (called squamous cells) that actually are layered, one on top of the other. Newly produced squamous cells are made deep along the border of the dermis and gradually push the older cells outward. As this outer layer becomes thicker, the oldest cells eventually die. This new, outermost, layer of dead cells becomes a specific anatomic layer called the stratum corneum.

Enzymes are able to penetrate through the cell walls and carry with them the skin repair ingredients and the peptides that acts as natural antibiotics. Once inside the cell, the skin repair ingredients will stimulate new formation of collagen and turn on the synthesis of dermal glycosaminoglycans to "pump" up the cells and the "ground substances" in the skin. That also reduces wrinkles on the skins surface.
