GLYCOBALM can be used to heal acne scars or acne scarring in conjunction with retinoids (isotretinoin: accutane, roaccutane, or Retin A, Differin gel, etc.) or in conjunction with oral systemic antibiotics used to stop severe acne infections. Isotretinoin and topical retinoids, such as Retin A, aim to decrease the amount of oil produced by the skin's sebaceous (oil) glands. GLYCOBALM is not a man made chemical. Laboratory screening of the snail's extract has shown it is a very complex. Some of the easily recognizable components are the structures of molecules of several vitamins, proteins and peptides: amino acid chains that act as signals to the neuro-system to trigger the body's own mechanism of skin renewal and to quickly react to kill opportunistic bacteria within the skin follicles -acting as a natural antibiotic without creating any bacterial resistance, as pharmaceutical antibiotics do.

Understanding the process of skin renewal and repair of acne scarring
The key to skin renewal is a process where (1) the skin is irritated or slightly damaged by exfoliating agents (such as glycolic acid contained naturally and in a low dose in GLYCOBALM) or mildly damaged by other procedures ("sanding" by dermabrasion or burning by laser). This is followed by (2) a natural rebuilding of the skin that removes imperfections, rebuilds collagen and elastin fibres that tighten skin, and increases the amount of glycosamoinoglycans, the moisture-holding proteins that give skin its firmness.

The stronger the exfoliation or skin damage, the stronger is the skin rebuilding action. Unfortunately, strong exfoliation causes strong skin irritation with itching, burning, and pain. And the results of laser resurfacing or dermabrasion depend on the skills of the practician.

THE ROLE OF GLYCOBALM
However to get good results with any skin renewal procedure it is IMPERATIVE skin healing progresses at rapid pace. Here is where GLYCOBALM plays a role, and it is recommended even for use after dermabrasion or laser re-surfacing.

GLYCOBALM, as the snail's slime it is made off contains enzymes combined with skin regenerating accelerators. The skin regeneration accelerators are special proteins and peptides (amino-acid chains) that signal the body to start reproducing human skin cells as quickly as for the repair of the snail's skin. The enzymes decrease the "glue" that holds dead cells on the surface of the skin, and reduce the thickness of the stratum corneum by reducing cell cohesion in lower levels of the stratum corneum.

This triggers an increase in cell renewal. And helps the dead cells to slough off (desquamation), speeds skin turnover, and brings to the surface a layer of smoother, softer skin. It also removes skin lesions, and restores the skin firmness, elasticity, and internal moisture-holding properties.

When GLYCOBALM is used as a long term skin care routine (2 to 4 months) it may be as good as a short term strong chemical peel or a skilled dermabrasion or laser-resurfacing procedure. Results may be more noticeable in the beginning, when the outer layer of damaged skin is peeled off. Then the repair process continues within the skin follicles at a less noticeable pace.

GLYCOBALM also acts within the skin follicles, on the surface and inside the dermis, to restore a normal and healthy skin with normal pigment production. You must also apply a sunscreen or wear protective clothing to prevent darkening from further sun exposure.

The first effect is a softness of your skin, the ultimate healing is when new "invisible hair" called “lanugo” start coming out of the restored hair follicles where the skin was once damaged. This process can take as long as 4 to 12 months for damaged skin and old scars.
