Skin Care Products - What to Avoid According to Skin Type

by Martha Fitzharris

There are so many different types of skin care products that it can be difficult to know which one is best for you. Every marketing campaign out there is trying to convince you that they have the best product and it's perfect for you. But, there is a way of finding the right product for you without getting blinded by all the hype. You have to learn what to avoid in order to find what's best for you.

Everyone has a specific skin type that requires special attention. So, before we get too carried away, you need to know your skin type. There are many different sites that offer orientation on the subject or you can consult with a dermatologist.

Okay, so once you've determined your skin type, take a look at the list and see which skin care products and techniques you should avoid.

Oily Skin

Most people think that people with oily skin are lucky. Truth is that it does take longer to age, and it can withstand harsher treatment than the other types of skin, but this doesn't mean that people with oily skin have free reign of any skin care product they want. Or what's worse, it doesn't mean they can live without them either.

As a matter of fact, it is advisable that they stay away from products with harsh, chemical ingredients and from harsh soaps. These products can strip away oils and cause dry.

Moreover, alcohol is one of the ingredients that can easily strip away the skin's natural essential oils. On the other hand, ingredients such as mineral oil are known to clog pores and counteract any possible treatment for acne. As an added recommendation, read the labels carefully before buying. Also avoid using hot water.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is one of the hardest types to treat. It is characterized by an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) and dry patches along the cheeks and side of the face.

Some specialists say that you should choose a product that can treat your oily skin patches and apply it to your entire face. On the other hand, there are others that suggest people use different products for each area. No matter which skin care philosophy you choose to believe, avoid the following ingredients.

Avoid skin care products containing alcohol. Also, avoid thick moisturizers because they will lead to clogged pores and acne problems.

As with oily skin, avoid using hot water and keep your cleansing routine short. The longer you take to wash your skin the more likely you are of stripping it of natural oils and stimulating the oily patches to produce more sebum.

Dry and Sensitive Skin

You must take extra special care of your skin if it is dry or sensitive. This skin type is vulnerable because any slight breakage will damage your skin's protective layer.

As in the other skin types, you should avoid alcohol. This also applies to the avoidance of essential oils and other fragrances.

Other irritants include mint extract, cinnamon, camphor, lemon, menthol, and ylang-ylang just to name a few. Techniques that should be avoided by dry and sensitive skin are loofahs and abrasive scrubs as well as hot water.

All of the precautions I've mentioned should be taken into consideration when searching for acne skin care and acne scar treatment.

Choosing the right skin care product isn't easy unless you choose one of our products. It doesn't matter if you have oily, dry or combination skin and need to moisturize or simply treat acne problems, we have the right skin care product for you. For example, if you want an acne treatment for mild, moderate or strong acne then you can choose from a wonderful list of natural acne creams which include BIOSKINCLEAR, BIOACNECARE and BIOSKINFORTE.
