Acne Products: Your Daily Regimen

by Daniel Wright

If you struggle with acne, it may be time to select an acne treatment regimen to improve your skin. But there are so many different types of acne products on the market - how will you select the best ones? Relax. In this article, we've done all the hard work for you and picked out the best acne products for your skin care regimen.

You must start with a cleansing agent for your skin. Soap does more harm than good as it robs the necessary moisture. Choose a gentle face wash which is soap-free. To make sure that it doesn't cause irritation to your skin type do a patch test on your elbow. Clean your skin at least in the morning and before going to bed religiously. It is a good practice to wash thoroughly after your get back home to remove the make-up.

Next, you will need a basic moisturizer. Select a moisturizer that is specifically formulated for people with acne. Make sure it is non-comedogenic and right for your specific skin type, as well. Your skin type is going to be either "normal", "oily", "dry", or "combination". It may surprise you, but people with acne can have dry skin! You will need to apply your moisturizer after every time you use your cleanser.

You will also require acne serum. There is a concentrated formula in serum with proper medications for the treatment of your skin - free from any other substances likely to irritate or unbalance your skin. Your serum can have salicylic acid - a special chemical for the treatment of your skin for acne causing bacteria or fungi.

Also important is a daily sunscreen. It may surprise you, but if you do not regularly use sunscreen, you may not only be exposing your skin to the kind of damage that causes skin cancer, but also worsening your acne! That's because sun is a leading cause of irritation. Select a sunscreen with an SPF rating appropriate for your skin color (the lighter your skin is, the higher an SPF you will need). Also make sure your sunscreen does not contain irritants or oils.

Finally, another product to add to your acne treatment routine is something to reduce the appearance of redness. You can choose the product that most closely matches the type of skin you have. Not only do these acne products help to make acne less noticeable, but they many also prevent you from getting as many blemishes because they are designed not to cause inflammation.
